May I point out that the 'Sergeants Mess Correspondent' is barking up the wrong tree, there is no DOE Mess, the civilian mess are 'Civil Service Messes', Civilian and distinct from the RAF. The correspondent implies that the Civil Servant Messes have no right to restrict or limit visitors. May I point out that an invitation to one of the Civil Service Messes is a privilege, and the right is reserved to select those who are given an invitation. The whole tone of the Civilian Messes would alter for the worse if any Tom, Dick or Harry from the Sgt's Mess were to be given unlimited admission. As far as I an aware, no civilian is invited to give direction to the management of the Sgt's Mess, so let us have the right to control our affairs. Yours Distinguished Civil Servant |
